The Colca valley is famous for harbour one of the deepest canyons in the world, it churches impressive architecture and awe inspiring landscape. Here we could see: Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus), Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus) Andean Hillstar (Oreotrochilus estella), Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas), Black Metaltail (Metallura phoebe), Black-necked Woodpecker (Colaptes atricollis), Creamy-breasted (Dark-winged) Canastero (Asthenes dorbignyi arequipae). We will stop in Chucura and Toccra bogs, for: Giant Coot (Fulica gigantea), Diademed (Sandpiper) Plover (Phegornis mitchellii), White-throated Sierra-Finch (Phrygilus erythronotus) and White-winged Diuca-Finch (Diuca speculifera).
The Mejia Lagoons National Sanctuary was created in 1984 and from 1992 designated a Ramsar site, it constitute a unique wild life refuge in coastal Peru, especially for migratory birds, both boreal (Sep.- Mar.) and austral (Mar.- Oct.) migrants.
The Mejia Lagoons National Sanctuary has a bird list of 209 different species and is the only place in Peru where you can see: Red-fronted Coot (Fulica rufifrons) and White-winged Coot (Fulica leucoptera). We will stop in Matarani to see: Surf Cinclodes (Cinclodes taczanowskii) endemic, IncaTern (Larosterna inca) and Humboldt Penguin (Spheniscus humboldti).
Colca Canyon
Around Chiguata vilage, we could see different species like: Thick-billed Miner (Geositta crassirostris fortis) endemic, White-throated Earthcreeper (Upucerthia albigula), Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant (Agriornis montanus).
Going up through El Simbral, towards the Salinas Lagoon we cross Polylepis and Gynoxys forest patches, here it is possible to watch: Tamarugo Conebill (Conirostrum tamarugense) only between march and setember, Black-hooded Sierra-Finch (Phrygilus atriceps), Black Metaltail (Metallura phoebe) endemic, Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus).
In Salinas Lagoon, we could see 3 species of flamingos: Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis), Andean Flamingo (Phenecoparrus andinus), Jame’s Flamingo (Phenecoparrus jamesi). Here I found the first record for Peru of Horned Coot (Fulica cornuta), besides that: Andean Avocet (Recurvirostra andina), Puna Yellow-Finch (Sicalis lutea), Puna Plover (Charadrius alticola), Golden-spotted Ground-Dove (Metriopelia aymara).

Peru have 84 of the 104 life zones of the world, this translates in a vast biodiversity, with over 1800 species of birds, of which 105 are endemic.

The city of Puno and the Titicaca Lake are a main tourist destination, both for its culture and festivities.
The Titicaca National Reserve harbours 105 different species of birds, some of
the birds that could be seen around here are: Titicaca Grebe (Rollandia microptera), Yellow-winged Blackbird (Agelasticus thilius), Darwin's Nothura (Nothura darwinii), Scale-throated Earthcreeper (Upucerthia dumetaria), among others.
